Right off the bat, I have to say, working minimum wage sucks butthole.
This is stuff like retail, fast food, warehouses, coffee shops, places where you're treated like
dirt. Lower than dirt. In reality, the main, main reason these minimum wage jobs are so stressful
is because of the rude customers. Especially the older ones who work cushier jobs with better pay.
They just see you as completely inferior.
You're an insect, under their boot.
But there's really no way around that, or no way to fix that, until everyone is stuck
in a sucky minimum wage job and they're brought down to the same level, but we can't
just sit around waiting for that to happen.
Instead, I've compiled some of the best and most useful advice for anyone working
a standard minimum wage position.
A lot of this applies to any job, but some are specifically targeted to specific positions
this video.
any of these places, watch until the end, because my goal is to give you at least one
piece of advice that helps you in your new sucky job.
Let's get started.
Let's start off with some generally good advice.
First of all, this is a mental game.
Remember that it won't last forever, this is only temporary.
Even if you are at that job for a long time, it's really important to convince yourself
that you won't be.
Do not become content with staying there forever.
It's like that Adventure Time episode where you go into the slime queen and the second
you become complacent…
and accept your fate, you'll become trapped and you will never leave.
Also, I think it goes without saying, but make sure you're taking full advantage of
the benefits and perks that they offer.
These will vary from location to location and company to company, but I'll run through
a few common ones.
Wendy's, for example, they tend to offer you and your family a 50% discount 7 days
a week, according to their website.
On the days that you work, you get a free meal.
If you're working at a fast food place, free food once per shift is the most common
perk.
Starbucks also offers free drinks, and working at a movie theater includes free movies.
Provided the movie is not a new release or new Disney release especially.
Because Disney movies are just too good for your broke ass.
If your workplace offers build cards, memorize them in your downtime.
This is super important.
The better you know the system by heart, the better you'll be at diffusing certain situations.
Build cards are essentially a blueprint for how
a sandwich or specialty coffee is made.
Example.
A customer at a coffee place is currently cursing you and your entire bloodline because
you ran out of decaf coffee.
Go get Filet-O-Fish!
Get Filet-O-Fish!
It's a common scenario.
But you remember that you also offer decaf espresso shots, and you suggest a decaf americano
instead.
