Hi, my name is Alya Washi and my middle name is Osa Rosa and I am the founder of Osa Rosa
Intervention Foundation.
There are some young girls in some countries who are forced into early marriages because
of their culture, poverty and illiteracy.
When it is time for them to give birth, because of the immaturity of their bodies and the
fact that they are poor and can't afford to go to a proper doctor, they give birth at
home.
In many instances, the labor is prolonged and obstructed and may result in the death
of the baby and or the mom and the woman may die.
end up with a condition known as obstetric fistula. Mom, what is an obstetric fistula?
This is a birthing injury that creates an unusual opening in the pelvic area where the lady starts
leaking either urine and or or feces involuntarily. A lot of the time the husband or the family will
send her out of the house and or the community and she may end up destitute, helpless, ashamed,
and socially stigmatized.
Mommy, how can we help them?
This conversation led to the creation of what we now know as the Osorosa Intervention Foundation.
Through donations and financial contributions, the Osorosa Intervention Foundation provides
free surgeries and hospital admission free feeding while in the hospital,
Counseling, free medicines, social events, sanitary supplies, community reintegration.
small business startup capital, and follow-up visits.
Obstetric fistula is a birthing injury. It does not occur because the woman has
been unfaithful or is cursed, as some cultures believe. Let's help stop the
practice of giving out very young girls in marriage. Obstetric fistula can be
remedied through surgery. It is curable. Let's be more compassionate towards
these women by ending the stigma associated with obstetric fistula.
Let's end obstetric fistula now.
