Hello everyone. I want to give you all
0:02
an update on a bizarre medical mystery,
0:04
absolutely tragic situation that I first
0:07
reported on at the beginning of last
0:09
month. A cluster of cancer cases, brain
0:12
cancers in nurses, all in the same
0:14
hospital working in the same area. Seems
0:18
very strange indeed. And authorities at
0:20
the time said that they thought that
0:22
this was nothing to do with the
0:24
environment. I'll include a link down
0:26
below to my initial video. And we have
0:29
got an update now, a sad update, and I'm
0:32
going to give you my own thoughts and
0:34
analysis afterwards. Take a look at
0:36
this. So, this was recently published in
0:38
a Boston publication. This is the
0:39
mainstream media. Seventh maternity
0:41
nurse at Newton Welssley Hospital
0:43
reports brain tumor. This is a town a
0:46
few miles west of Boston, Massachusetts.
0:48
Debbie Connley worked as a nurse in the
0:50
maternity ward from 2005 to 2018. She
0:53
was diagnosed with a right frontal lobe
0:55
meningioma last month. Menitoiomas are a
0:58
type of brain tumor. Often they are
1:00
slower growing and can be kept under
1:02
surveillance. Nevertheless, they are a
1:04
type of brain cancer and they have to be
1:06
taken very seriously indeed if detected
1:09
on an imaging scan. Another former staff
1:12
member at Newton Welsey Hospital has
1:14
been diagnosed with a brain tumor,
1:15
bringing the total up to at least seven
1:18
cases, the former nurse shared with the
1:20
publication. The hospital said last
1:22
month that five nurses working on the
1:24
fifth floor maternity unit had been
1:27
diagnosed with non-cancerous brain
1:28
tumors. Hospital leadership confirmed a
1:31
sixth case. Later in the week, there is
1:33
now a seventh case. Debbie Connley said
1:35
that she worked as a nurse for more than
1:37
35 years, including working from 2005 to
1:40
2018 in the maternity unit on the fifth
1:43
floor of Newton Welsley Hospital. After
1:46
taking a medical leave, she said she was
1:48
fired from her role when symptoms
1:50
affected her memory and balance didn't
1:52
get better. Well, that is very serious

0:36
So this was recently published in a Boston publication.

it detected on an imaging scan. Another former staff member at Newton-Wellesley Hospital has
1:13
been diagnosed with a brain tumor, bringing the total up to at least seven cases, the former nurse
1:19
shared with the publication. The hospital said last month that five nurses working on the fifth
1:25
floor maternity unit had been diagnosed with non-cancerous brain tumors. Hospital leadership
1:30
confirmed a sixth case later in the week. There is now a seventh case. Debbie Connelly said that
1:35
she worked as a nurse for more than 35 years, including working from 2005 to 2018 in the
1:42
maternity unit on the fifth floor of Newton Wellesley Hospital.
1:46
After taking a medical leave, she said she was fired from her role when symptoms affected
1:50
her memory and balance didn't get better.
1:53
Well, that is very serious indeed.
1:54
No matter the type of tumor, whether it's classed as a more benign tumor or a more aggressive
1:59
tumor, obviously when it starts to cause symptoms like that, then that is very concerning and
2:04
very tragic for the person involved.
2:06
Then in March she heard about the tumors seemingly plaguing her former unit.
2:10
She personally knows two people who were diagnosed with brain tumors.
2:14
As I said to my primary care doctor, How many people do you know? because as of
2:18
last month I knew none, Connelly said about the correlation between diagnoses and the
2:23
maternity ward.
2:24
She asked her doctor for a scan and she was diagnosed with a right frontal lobe meningioma.
2:29
The tumor is benign but could push on parts of the brain.
2:32
meningioma is the most common type of brain tumor, appeared twice among the initial five
2:37
confirmed cases.
2:38
So what did the healthcare system have to say about this?
2:41
The hospital declined to comment, saying there is no update in the situation.
2:45
Previously, they've maintained that their investigation has shown no evidence that
2:48
these medical conditions were caused by the work environment. Their investigation looked
2:53
into radiation from x-rays, drinking water, and ionizing radiation from chemotherapy.
2:58
Then this particular person, her doctor, was hesitant to attribute her years of symptoms
3:02
to the small tumor, saying she wouldn't need surgery unless it grows. She reported her
3:07
diagnosis to the Massachusetts Nursing Association, which is conducting their own investigation into
