Hi! Dear Gylres, welcome to our show.
0:06
I have to tell you something. I have hardly been able to read books during this period.
0:12
I don't know what has happened. I have listened to podcasts, I have gone on trips, I have done other things.
0:17
But then I came across your amazing book.
0:21
Thank you.
0:23
It is one of the smartest, finest and most understandable books I have read.
0:29
Thank you.
0:29
I think it should be on the pensum, not only for young people, but also for adults.
0:38
Thank you.
0:38
I was so excited. I remember lying on the bed, and I was so excited from the start. I felt like I was being taken by the hand.
0:50
And I cried a lot, because it is an incredibly warm year, from the book you have written.
0:56
Thank you. I am very happy that the Crown Prince likes us.
1:00
I mean it. There was something about the book that hit me.
1:06
I felt so lucky to have such a fantastic author who can convey what you have written about in Norway.
1:20
to Norwegian youth. This is a book that Norwegian youth need.
1:23
Can you tell us a bit about your background and why you started writing?
1:27
I understand that you are a teacher?
1:29
Yes, I grew up in Grinneleka. I was early fascinated by literature.
1:35
I went to Barnaga and Deichmann Grinneleka.
1:37
It was just going down the stairs and borrowing a lot of books.
1:40
I was very early fascinated by literature.
1:43
I started with Ludde, Emma and Thomas from the time I was in high school.
1:45
And then I continued with other kinds of literature. Gyllenhaal's youth classics, Robinson Crusoe and so on
1:53
And then it became Dostoevsky and a lot of other things
1:56
So I am very fascinated by literature. I went with a dream of being an author in my stomach for a long time
2:02
I dared not do so much with it before I turned 34 and thought I had to do something with my dream
2:10
I didn't know it would go so well
2:13
Congratulations, it's fantastic what has happened with this book. Not only have you received amazing reviews, but you have also received many readers.
2:20
Yes.
2:21
And the book has been translated into how many languages?
2:24
Yes, Danish, German and will be translated into Dutch and Italian. So there are expectations everywhere.
2:33
Yes. Tell us a little about the people you write about in this book.
2:40
Mahmoud, 15 years old, and a summer vacation where Mahmoud gets to visit an uncle from Parksøvn
2:47
Yes, who has to be the world's funniest uncle
2:51
And you have Mahmoud's best friend, who is a bit of a philosopher of the 1st century
2:55
And then you have your little brother Ali, and your mom and dad at home, who are out on vacation
3:01
And then a lot of strange things happen during this summer vacation
3:04
And the reader is supposed to go through this summer vacation with Mahmoud
3:11
It is a lot of fun, fascinating and exciting things. I don't want to talk too much, I am almost reading the book.
3:20
But it is this summer vacation that is the basis of the whole story.
3:25
What do you think is the reason that so many people have been hooked on this book?
3:31
I think the reason is that it is funny, it is a bit deviant in humor, but at the same time it is satirical and sarcastic.
3:41
So it was very humorous. But then there is this with the little brother who carries a secret, which the reader might want to find out in the book.
3:49
And it is a novel from the eastern part of Oslo, with a lot of humor and brothers and sisters, told in an energetic way.
3:57
I think the readers liked that it was very oral.
4:02
It's like sitting by a fire and telling the whole world.
4:07
It's very oral in the prelude.
4:09
I think the readers appreciated that.
4:12
It was a bit different.
4:13
And it was written in multiethnic.
