Vinod Kostla, the founder of Kostla Ventures, the famed venture capital firm in Silicon Valley,
0:08
has put out 12 incredible predictions about the future. And that's what we're going to be talking
0:13
about today. So first, why should you listen to Vinod Kostla? Who is he? So let's just look at some
0:19
of the investments that Kostla has made over the last 20 years. We have OCTA currently valued at
0:25
27 billion ring central 23 billion get lab which is a very popular enterprise
0:31
alternative to GitHub color genomics we have academia dot edu door dash which is a
0:37
huge public company impossible foods instacard open door square straight these
0:43
are all massive companies that coastal ventures made early bets on so Vinod
0:49
Kosole has been in Silicon Valley for a very long time and has made some
0:54
incredible investments and really has seen the future better than most have.
0:59
So Vinod just today put out this tweet thread which includes a series of slides which I think
1:06
we're part of a TED talk although I can't find the video.
1:08
But in it he says entrepreneur with passion for a vision and venture future they want.
1:13
These are my predictions for abundant awesome technology based possible tomorrow.
1:17
2035 through 2049 if we allow it to happen.
1:21
Now, Vinod is extremely optimistic with these predictions, and I think that's the point.
1:26
I tend to be very optimistic about technology in the future, but I also know there's always
1:31
the flip side to it.
1:33
So as we're going through these slides, keep that in mind, understand that I'm an optimist,
1:38
and it's totally okay to be a pessimist as well as we're talking through these because
1:43
someone needs to take that position.
1:45
Number one, expertise will be near free.
1:47
We will be capable of having near-free AI doctors for every person and AI tutors for every child 24-7
1:54
I think this is probably the most likely prediction he has and in fact
1:58
I think the scope that he's describing here is actually much smaller than what the possible scope actually is
2:04
So expertise will be near-free. We're almost there
2:08
We are at the cusp of seeing that with large language models and artificial intelligence in general
2:13
We have incredible knowledge packaged in a size that is just a few gigabytes, and it's
2:19
pretty incredible to think about.
2:21
Essentially, and I know not exactly, but essentially the entirety of human knowledge can be packaged
2:27
in a file size that is just a few gigabytes large.
2:31
And that means that any type of knowledge work could and likely will be replaced or at
2:37
least highly complemented by large language models very soon.
2:41
So he's talking about free AI doctors and free AI tutors for every child 24
2:46
seven. I think those are just two examples, but there are many more software
2:51
engineers, marketing, creatives. The list really goes on. And so what happens when
2:57
expertise is nearly free? First of all, there's two sides of it. All of a sudden
3:02
everybody has access to cutting edge expertise in pretty much any field. The flip
3:07
side to it is what happens to all those experts. I still think that there's going to be a need for
3:13
the cutting edge, the bleeding edge of knowledge and expertise discovery. I don't quite think we're
3:21
anywhere close to large language models being able to discover new knowledge, but I'm also very
3:26
willing to be wrong about that. So if all of this expertise is suddenly free, I see a world in which
3:33
Individuals can solve problems almost on their own.
3:37
Complex problems that they would usually have to go to an expert to solve.
3:42
And it's funny to think about this because just a few years ago,
3:45
I think the general sentiment was blue collar workers would be the first to be replaced
3:51
with artificial intelligence, with automation, with robotics.
3:54
But it turns out thought workers, people like me who code or who are creative
3:58
or a bunch of other examples, they were the first most likely to be replaced.
4:01
And now it turns out being able to work with your hands is actually a really valuable skill
