This kid made over $1 million in one year with a business idea that nobody's talking about.
0:05
AI generated books. He invited us into his apartment in Toronto to show us where he found this idea,
0:11
how he started on a budget, and how he built it in a few hours a day while attending college full-time.
0:17
Before the money, Joe Poplis was just a uni student stocking shelves for 11 bucks an hour.
0:22
Now, he's making a living selling thousands of ebooks using an unconventional method with chat GPT.
0:27
Initially this wasn't the way I did it, but this is the best way to do it now.
0:31
But the craziest part about his business is actually not how he creates the books.
0:35
It's how he advertises them.
0:37
The majority of my money has been made off of that.
0:40
The AI revolution is here and Joe is living proof.
0:43
I'm Pat Walls and this is Starter Story.
0:48
You built an amazing business. Tell me about who you are and what you built.
0:52
I'm Joe. I'm a 20 year old computer science student.
0:55
I've built a book brand that is now valued at $930,000.
0:59
I generate all books with AI and then I market them on Pinterest to middle-aged moms.
1:05
How did you come up with this business idea?
1:07
2020 was the year when I graduated high school.
1:10
I started working on a use case for GPT-3.
1:14
I got a really good idea of how AI could be integrated into different business models.
1:17
In 2022, I was like, why don't I just utilize my preexisting skill set?
1:23
AI, GPT-3s, now out, a few businesses know about it.
1:26
Maybe I could help provide some value
1:28
to like some small mid-sized businesses
1:30
who want to learn more about AI.
1:32
Around that time that I got that idea,
1:34
people actually started reaching out to me
1:36
asking about my experience at OpenAI.
1:39
I had a kind of like tab on my LinkedIn
1:41
that showed that I had worked on use cases
1:43
for OpenAI for the GPT-3 beta.
1:46
They started asking me certain things.
1:48
It got to the point where I started charging
1:50
For the advice that I was giving in July of 2022, I met with the publishing company where
1:59
I got the idea.
2:01
They showed me their stats and how much money they were making off of selling books.
2:05
That was a complete eye opener for me.
2:07
I didn't realize how many people bought books.
2:10
Per month, their revenue was about $2 million, which is absolutely insane to me.
2:15
I thought, why can't I just start up something similar?
2:18
because what they were doing was so insanely simple that they were not doing anything AI book related and when I met with them
2:25
I told them nothing about my idea that I had kind of formulated
2:28
Well, we're on the call in the month of August I generated 10 20 books
2:34
I generated a few more in September by the end of September
2:37
I was at 40 books I generated 40 books with AI then on October 3rd
2:41
I hit my first profitable day and I was like 20 dollars October 4th
2:45
That was like $40 and then from there,
2:47
it almost grew exponentially.
2:48
On December 28th, on that forget this day,
2:51
that's when I hit my first 1K day profit.
2:54
And that was crazy.
