When I graduated, after that I really had no clue what I wanted to do and so I tried
0:07
a ton of different hobbies.
0:09
2013ish or so I started gardening with my brother just to break the pattern, get off the
0:12
computer, get outside and I wasn't thinking it would be anything but a hobby.
0:17
I think curiosity as an entrepreneur is what propels you and if you innately have it then
0:22
you're sort of good to go.
0:24
My name is Kevin Aspire too and I am the founder of Epic Gardening which is the world's
0:28
Most followed gardening brand.
0:30
We've extracted to $7.3 million a year
0:32
and now do tens of millions a year in revenue.
0:50
So we're here at my homestead, I call it, in Suburban San Diego.
0:54
It's about a third of an acre.
0:56
The house is 1,000 square feet, so pretty small house.
0:59
Live here with my girlfriend and some random cats that come by.
1:02
We have nine hens and probably like 300 plus plants.
1:06
Thousands of plants, I'm not even really sure, 25 fruit trees.
1:09
But this is Epic Gardening headquarters.
1:10
This is where we fill them on our content.
1:11
And so we test our products.
1:12
This is where we grew out our new varieties of our our seeds that we sell and just kind of hang out.
1:24
I grew up here in Southern California, San Diego in a suburban area.
1:30
It was really in a science, really into math, it was being sent to science camps as a kid, it was collecting rocks, collecting coins.
1:36
And then something that threw my life for a loop was when I was 13, my dad passed away in an accident.
1:42
He was in a pool swimming, he loved to swim, and he passed out underwater, something caused him to go unconscious.
1:49
No one was there watching.
1:50
They should have been and they could not resuscitate them.
1:53
And so, you know, you wake up one day,
1:55
and you don't have your dad.
1:57
So, after that, I was very independent.
2:10
Even before that, I was exceptionally independent after that.
2:14
And it was that sort of way of thinking
2:15
that led me to all these weird hobbies
2:18
and following that path.
2:19
Because I really didn't care anymore
2:20
what anyone thought I should do.
2:29
So what I did is I left college graduated.
2:31
The problem is after that I really had no clue
2:33
what I wanted to do.
2:34
And so I tried a ton of different hobbies.
2:36
I spent a whole month doing night photography
2:38
and I spent a whole month drumming.
2:40
So I would drum for like six to eight hours a day
2:42
on like an electric kit with headphones on.
2:44
But yeah, there was just this whole period of time
2:46
where I was trying a bunch of random things.
2:48
Me and while probably playing some video games
2:50
and stuff at the time and just like exploring all these different hobbies,
2:54
2013ish or so, I started gardening with my brother
2:56
or just to break the pattern, get off the computer,
